How To Package Wet NiCD Batteries For Shipment to GlobalTech

To help you manage your wet NiCD battery scrap recycling, we offer a clever, safe, and cost -effective way to store and ship Wet NiCD batteries to Globaltech for recycling.

Halved Gaylords, with bottoms/lids, make for an excellent way to transport Wet NiCD. We prefer the heavy-duty gaylords (6-ply) for stacking. First, cut the gaylord in half (we use a circular saw), then cut the gaylord flattened out where the edge of the flaps of the lids are — or use a chalk line. We use 40” tall gaylords, cut in half.

Liners. These aren’t mandatory unless you will be shipping them on an aircraft. Liners should be used if you suspect spillage of the acid. We always use liners for shipping Wet NiCD batteries for recycling.

Prevent movement. Make sure that the Wet NiCD batteries are relatively snug to prevent damage or spillage during transport.

How To Ship Batteries

Stacking. If stacking, place a piece of plywood on top of the first box. It must be some sort of manufactured board as international refiners will not accept pure hardwood and soft woods because of the possibility that they may harbor invasive species of animals. We use a 48” by  43″of CDX 1/2″plywood. This makes stacking much stronger and easier.

Stacking. Carefully place the 2nd palleted half gaylord on top of the plywood.
