Fees That Could Be Incurred
SORTING; MIXED BATTERY CHEMISTRIES:
If a box of batteries has mixed battery chemistries, then we must sort 100% of the box to remove that contamination (mixed chemistries). We charge $0.32/lb for all the material that is gone through to properly sort the mixed battery chemistries. This charge is necessary to ensure we receive properly represented material, and for you to receive the premium prices from GlobalTech Environmental. If you are unsure and have a question about a certain battery chemistry, please send us a photo of the battery prior to packaging.
TAPING OR PACKAGING TO REDUCE SHORT-CIRCUIT AND EVOLUTION:
To prevent fires, and to abide by PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) standards, please follow these guidelines: All hazardous batteries with exposed (non-recessed terminals) MUST be taped or packaged in a way to avoid a dangerous evolution of heat and/or short-circuit. There is no need to tape recessed terminals of batteries like laptops and cell phones if terminals cannot touch. There is also no need to tape smaller voltage, non-hazardous batteries like NiMH, NiCD, and Alkaline (D size and smaller). We charge a minimum of $1.05/lb. if we deem the batteries in need of repackaging or taping.
BREACHED BATTERIES:
We DO NOT accept BREACHED hazardous batteries at this time; BREACHED BATTERIES means you can see the insides of the cells. Significant fees will apply if we receive BREACHED BATTERIES as they are an extreme fire hazard!
BLOATS, DAMAGED (BUT NOT BREACHED), DEFECTIVE, RECALLED:
It is at our discretion to charge fees to properly manage these types of batteries.
BATTERIES EXPOSED TO WATER:
A percentage of your battery material was found to be exposed to water. Water will lead to short circuits which can lead to fire. In addition to fire dangers, some battery chemistries, like lithium-based batteries, can release toxic gases when exposed to water. Water can also eliminate the possibility that a battery can be tested and reused which can significantly decrease the value of your material. Please store all batteries indoors and ship batteries in a manner that eliminates the possibility for environmental impact! We charge a minimum of $1.05/lb. for wet material including the weight of the moisture; fees can be much higher if hazardous batteries are involved; this will be in addition to any other charge for said material. It is ultimately the shipper’s responsibility to properly manage their waste according to all state and federal laws. This material must be pre-approved in writing before shipping. If this material is received without pre-approval we reserve the right to charge significant fees to properly handle this material, or we can refuse shipment if possible.
REWEIGH FEES FOR SHIPMENT:
As with all shipping, material weight is critical for transportation and pricing. If material's weight is misrepresented for logistics, that we have managed, then we will incur additional fees from the logistics carrier. Therefore, we charge fees , at our discretion, depending on how far off your weights are from our certified scales. This fee protects us from fees we will incur from the logistics companies, sometimes months later. Please provide accurate weights to ensure no additional fees will occur.
HANDHELD OVERWEIGHT PACKAGING:
Boxes that must be lifted by hand: Individual boxes must not weigh over 60 lbs. as this ensures employee safety and reduces the tendency for dangerous spills. If stacking these boxes, please fill each box to capacity to ensure the structural integrity of all the boxes. We charge $10/box for every overweight box, plus any additional fees for material spills or non conforming material.
GAYLORD BOXES:
Yes, We do accept gaylord boxes that weigh up to 4,000 lbs. If filling Gaylords to capacity, we recommend the walls of the gaylord to be 5-ply or greater. We charge $150.00/gaylord if we must repackage for safe storage.
BARRELS:
We also accept metal and plastic barrels filled to capacity. Please make sure to secure the barrels to the skid to avoid material spills or damage to other freight during transit. Fees will apply if there are material spills and/or damage to other freight.
SKIDS/PALLETS:
Please make sure that your pallet is in good enough condition to handle the load. If a skid breaks it can cause material spills, lead to several safety issues, or make it impossible to safely move with a forklift. Fees will be assessed at our full discretion for unsafe damaged pallets.
LIFT GATES:
if a lift gate is needed at your location please be aware that most lift gates have a weight limit of 2500 lbs.
MATERIAL SPILL POLICY/FEES:
There was a dry spill with the material in your shipment. Please fill boxes to capacity, especially the lower level of boxes (if stacking boxes) and consider using stronger boxes. Put heavier and/or stronger boxes on the bottom level of the pallet. Shrink wrap more than three times around the load. Use strong unbroken pallets. Spills will be charged $80.00/hour plus any additional packaging fees for the repackaging of your material. Any additional fees will be at our sole discretion.
*Important note: We do not like to add any fees, so please ask questions and follow applicable laws so everyone associated with your shipment is safer!
